Voka was born in 1965 in Puchberg, Lower Austria. For the last 25 years, he has also been living and working in Koroni, Messinia, Greece, where his home and studio are located.

He coined the term Spontaneous Realism as a trademark for his art. Voka defines this style as a revival of the significance of contemporary art — a valued tradition reinterpreted for a new era, reflecting today’s spirit of the times.

His distinctive style, emerging from the dynamics of the moment, enables him to strikingly capture immediate reality, allowing the observer to palpably feel the embedded movement.

The foundation of his artistic work is rooted in a decades-long engagement with the art of realism. He studied the techniques of the old masters and incorporated them into his own intensive self-study.

His first encounter with watercolor revealed to him that working quickly — as he was often forced to do when painting outdoors due to the fast-drying nature of the medium — could give his brushstrokes more momentum and, consequently, greater dynamism.

With the discovery of acrylic paint, he was able to merge his solid foundational knowledge — not only of the meticulous and “heavy” techniques of oil painting but also the “light” and rapid techniques of watercolor — to develop his own unique style of Spontaneous Realism.
