Roza Eliou

Born 1926, Athens, Greece.

During the period 1950-1954 she studied sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts, with professor Michalis Tombros. She then moved to Japan, where she worked and studied in Kamakura, Japan, at the famous studios of R Yamaguchi and T Hirano where she specialized in ceramics, melanografia, Sumi-E ink wash painting and the art of Origami paper.

Since 1960 she has participated in seven pan-Hellenic exhibitions, in all group exhibitions of the Sculptors Association in Greece and abroad, while she has participated in group exhibitions in Cyprus, USA, France, etc.

Her sculptures can be found in institutions such as the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, Italy, the Hudson Collections in Washington D.C., the Museum of Contemporary Art (Vorres), in Yokosuka Japan, the Pierridis

Pinacotheca, the Kotopoulis Museum (Ionannidis’ Collection), the Cyclades Museum, the Pinacotheca of Delphi, Public Art Galleries, local authorities, as well as in many collections in Greece and abroad.

Her works decorate the Paleo Faliro beach, the Sainopoulio Park of Sparta, the State Hospital of Sparta, the Monument of the Fallen in Kythira Island, the Pinacotheca Diplarakou in Paleo Faliro, the Library of CYU in Neo Faliro, the Town Hall of Paleo Faliro, while more than 20 of her medals have been released in Greece and abroad.

Moreover, her production includes jewelers, which have been exhibited at the Jewelry Fair of the Ministry of Culture in Thessaloniki.

She was a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts in Greece since 1966, while she participated for a number of years in Classification and Judgment Committees, as well as in the Ephorate of Sculpture. She was a representative of the Chamber in the jury of many artistic competitions.

She passed away in 2018.
