A unique collaboration between sculpture and painting brings to life a beloved object from our childhood memories: the rubber duck. Nikos Melachrinos and Iakinthi Fotopoulou join artistic forces to present a fresh, contemporary, and entirely handcrafted version of this familiar toy.
Nikos Melachrinos has devoted recent years to design, focusing exclusively on creating ducks. Since 2015, when he brought his idea to life, he has reimagined the classic duck as a work of art—playful in essence, yet elevated through modern design and a distinctly Greek aesthetic. His sculptural approach transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary, giving the duck a new identity that travels through galleries and private collections across Greece and abroad.
Iakinthi Fotopoulou, a graduate of Fashion Design & Construction at PANSIK and of the Department of Primary Education, brings her unique artistic touch to the project. With a deep love for painting from an early age, she has developed a wide range of techniques—from pencil and acrylics to vibrant collages—and in recent years has been designing hand-painted clothing and fabrics with her own prints. In this collaboration, she uses the duck as her canvas, infusing it with color, imagination, and the charm of handmade detail.
Their collaboration grew from a shared enthusiasm for the object and evolved into a piece that balances art, nostalgia, and contemporary design.
